The Hunger Walk is a major fundraiser for the Greater Chicago Food Depository and their agency pantries like us. We will receive a $12 credit for each walker who registers and participates (for us to get the credit you must actually be present at the walk). Also, we will receive additional matching funds if our team raises at least $500 in donations, so please consider registering and asking your family and friends to sponsor you. Children are welcome and will also count for the $12 credit. As far as the day of the event, onsite registration begins at 7:00 am, but we would like to register everyone in advance so we can avoid the long lines. We will meet at our pantry at 7:15 am and a bus will transport everyone to the event. If we have at least 34 registered walkers, we will get the bus for free. If we don’t make that number, we will still provide transportation as we have a donor who has offered to cover the cost. The event is in Chicago at Jackson Park (the park behind the Museum of Science and Industry) and officially steps-off at 8:30 am and ends at 12:00 pm. After you have registered, we will send more information such as what to bring and what not to bring and so on. We will need to get an idea of how many will be walking so PLEASE register as soon as possible. If you need help registering, please let us know and one of us will be glad to help you. Here is how to register:
Go to www.chicagosfoodbank.org/HungerWalk and click on either the orange “REGISTER TO WALK” button or if you plan on raising funds, the blue “REGISTER TO WALK AND FUNDRAISE” button.
Click the green “Get Tickets” button. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT – to avoid the $25 adult walking fee and the $5 child fee, you need to click “Enter Promotional Code” and then enter our agency number, which is A01516, and click “APPLY CODE”. You will then see that the fee has been adjusted to $0.
Next you will then be prompted to complete registration information. Enter all of your pertinent information and THIS IS ALSO VERY IMPORTANT – for the question “Are you walking on behalf of a member agency?” you must click “Yes” and then in the dropdown box you must scroll down until you find our agency number “A01516” and our name “Share Food Share Love Food Pantry”. If you don’t do this, we will not get credit for your participation. An email will be sent to the email address you provided during registration. You will automatically receive a ticket as an attachment. Print this ticket and bring it to the park on the day of the event. The ticket will be scanned by one of the event volunteers and then we get our $12 credit.
After registering, a box will appear with buttons to either click “I WANT A FUNDRAISING PAGE” or “NO THANKS”. You can make your choice at this point. If you do choose to fundraise, you will be asked how you want to fundraise. You will then click “JOIN A TEAM” and then follow the instructions to find our Pantry
Finally, you will be asked if you want to create a Crowdwise account. Crowdrise is the company that the GCFD uses to run this part of the process. You should complete the requested information and then un-click the box asking whether you want to receive emails from Crowdrise (unless you want the emails, then leave the box checked). Then when you click on the orange button and you will be taken to the fundraising page.
