A big Share Food Share Love thank you goes out today to our friends in the Loyola University Medical Center Radiology Department Team for their very generous donation of food, books and money to the Pantry. We can't thank these folks enough for their effort and for their generosity! We are going to be able to feed a lot of hungry people because they took the time to help those in need. So on behalf of the Food Pantry and its clients, thank you so much!
We would like to extend a very special thank you to the Brookfield Letter Carriers for conducting their annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive and to everyone who came to the Pantry and helped us carry, sort and shelve the amazing amount of food we received! Your help was greatly appreciated and the massive amount of food is going to be a great benefit to our clients. You're all aces in our book!
On Saturday May 12, local Letter Carriers will be participating in their annual Stamp Out Hunger food collection. They will pick up food donations from residents while on their mail routes and will then bring those donations to local food pantries. We are fortunate to be one of the pantries that the Brookfield Letter Carriers have chosen. As a result, beginning at approximately 12:00 pm on May 12, the Letter Carriers will begin dropping their collections at our Pantry. If you, or anyone you know, might be interested in helping us process those donations, we would sincerely appreciate any assistance. Even if you can only come for a short time, please consider coming by. If you are physically unable to help carry or move donations, much of the food will need to have its expiration date checked so we have something for everyone to do! We will have volunteers at the Pantry from 12:00 pm to approximately 6:00 pm so you can come anytime that works for you. Thank you for your consideration and we hope to see you on May 12!
Today at the Pantry, we were honored to have Annabelle Porter and a whole slew of her family and friends come and help distribute food. Annabelle is an extraordinary young lady who chose to celebrate her birthday today by helping her neighbors in need. Not only did she bring a big crew to help, Annabelle raised more than $1,000 to help the Pantry buy food! We can't thank you enough Annabelle! And we would be remiss if we didn't mention Annabelle's sister Savannah and her mom Jamie and everyone else who came out to help her make this a special birthday. Thank you all!!! Now we need your help. Lets see how many "Happy Birthdays" we can get for this special young lady! Please post a greeting and then give this a share!
Thank you very much to the very generous young ladies in Brownie Troop 55197, who are second graders at Brook Park School, for the beautiful blankets they made for our clients. Everyone at the Pantry is very excited to give these out and we can't thank them enough for their thoughtfulness!
The House Agriculture Committee just released its Farm Bill proposal, which they plan to consider on April 18. The released version calls for deep cuts to the SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) program. If it passes in its current form, it would cause serious harm to the majority of our clients.
We do not take side on political issues, but this one cuts close to home and will make like much more difficult for many of the people we help each week. Many of them are not only clients, but have become our friends as well.
If SNAP benefits are cut, pantries like us will never be able to cover the need. In fact, nationally SNAP provides 12 meals for every one provided by the charitable food system.
So regardless of your political affiliation, please consider Taking action and email your Representatives NOW! Tell our legislators we need them to VOTE NO on a Farm Bill that creates more barriers between federal food assistance and our most vulnerable neighbors.
Thank you for raising your voice in the fight against hunger and poverty.
Come see us at the Brookfield Village Hall on Sunday April 15 from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Brookfield Volunteer Fair! Stop by our table and say hello and if you haven't signed up to volunteer yet, we'll be glad to help you do that! See you then!
Our host church, Faith Lutheran, is hosting an Easter Egg Hunt and they have invited everyone to join them! The Egg Hunt will be held on March 31 at 9:30 am at Faith. Instead of entering through the alley door as you do to enter the Pantry, please enter through the front of the building on the street. The address is 3801 Madison Avenue in Brookfield. We'll see you there!
